The Compost Crew at Riverside Community Garden in Heidelberg will show you how to create hot compost. To prepare we collect organic materials like grass clippings, autumn leaves, straw, garden prunings, food scraps, coffee grounds and animal manures and once a month on the first Sunday start a new one cubic metre compost build. This will quickly heat to over 50 degrees Celsius and with twice weekly turning of the pile garden ready compost can be created in less than 30 days. The Community Garden is located at the east side of the tennis courts next to the Main Yarra Trail.
