Food Is Free Inc. is incredibly excited to announce the fabulous Matthew Evans, from Fat Pig Farm will be hosting an exclusive garden talk for us at Food Is Free Green Space on Wednesday 2 November, and you're invited!

Matthew Evans is a chef and food critic turned farmer-food activist. You may know him from his long-running SBS TV series Gourmet Farmer (six seasons). Or you might have a copy of his book Soil, which is all about reframing our thinking on past practices of growing food and the importance of organics for soil health. He is presently on a national book tour for his latest book release, The Real Food Companion, which is all about soil to stomach, using Matthew’s experience of over four decades of cooking, tasting and growing food, all condensed into one volume.

We look forward to Matthew giving our community an exclusive Food Is Free Green Space walk & talk about gardening, farming, the joys of growing and cooking your own food, with a particular emphasis on soil health. So if you want to hear someone gush as much as we do about compost, this is the talk for you!

Matthew will also be selling copies of his books at Green Space after the event.

Matthew has very kindly offered to do this talk for free, and all ticket sales will be donated to Food Is Free Inc. as a fundraiser for our annual operational costs (which are over $25,000 per annum). As this is a fundraiser, we won't allow refunds sorry. If you find you cannot attend can you please kindly gift your ticket to a friend instead, and we will honour that at the ticket collection if you email us at info@foodisfree.com.au prior to the event.

PLEASE NOTE: Event goes on rain, hail or shine. If weather is particularly dreadful we will be in the hall onsite instead. If there's a bit of rain - bring your umbrellas and dress appropriately.

BIO:

Matthew Evans lives on a mixed farm that occupies a one-time apple orchard in the Huon Valley outside Hobart with his partner Sadie Chrestman and son Hedley. He is nationally best known for his long-running SBS series Gourmet Farmer (six seasons), set on Fat Pig Farm's 70 acres, but also was the star of food documentaries What's the Catch? and For the Love of Meat. He has authored or co-authored 13 books on food, and is regularly interviewed on radio about all things to do with farming, growing, soil and eating. He has capitalised on his broad appeal hosting weekly farmhouse feasts and on-site cooking classes, which are often booked out months ahead. He is beloved of television audiences but also widely respected in the food world as someone who lives his truth - giving up the apparently coveted life of a Sydney food critic to create something real and meaningful with Sadie on their small parcel of land in southern Tasmania.

Please note: Food Is Free Inc. believes everyone is entitled to access food security education, and for this workshop we will reserve a few spots for our community members who feel restricted in attending financially, to attend for free. If you feel this applies to you, please email info@foodisfree.com.au for more info.

Bookings essential.
