Barcoo community garden has been established to develop gardening skills and food security for the general community of Toormina Coffs Harbour and particularly the residents of the street Barcoo Court.
It’s located on a vacant house lot of 700 sq m.
The education focus of the garden is about providing skills to create good soil fertility and to develop practical urban gardening to produce healthy home grown pesticide free fruit and vegetables.
Garden will open from 8.30 am til 4 pm with guide ambassadors available.
Refreshments of teas and coffee will be available throughout the day.

The open day will have 4 guided workshops with opportunities to ask questions and do practical hands on experience.
1 How to build good soil and examples and methods and resources to get soil fertility. 9.30 am
2 Solar aspects to enhance plant growth, building solar models of the garden. How to “stack” your garden for best results using basic permaculture principles in designing your garden.10.30 am

Lunch to share with hot barbecue and garden veggies. 11.30 am 12.30 pm

3 Growing fruit trees from cuttings, how to prepare cuttings, what trees are easy to get cutting from. Methods of preparing rapid root growth. What season is best. 12.30 pm
4 Seed saving in the garden. How to make your own seed saving plan to preserve good varieties that have superior taste or are resistant to pest attack or both, seasonal considerations for planting.. 1.30 pm
