Maize has co-evolved with First Nations communities in the USA, Mexico, Central- and South America through stewarded seeds and stories for thousands of years. Meg will talk about navigating maize as a non-indigenous person working with a plant that has a deep relationship with indigenous communities.
Meg first learned about heirloom corn (maize) when she lived in the United States in 2015, and this year will be her tenth season growing and cooking maize. Meg now grows corn across a network of urban growing sites and communities in Naarm Melbourne. She holds corn parties with locals and those with cultural links to maize so they can feast together.
