Did you know that November is Urban Agriculture Month and all over Australia communities are celebrating the good work happening, learning new skills and growing connections by meeting like-minded people who are passionate about growing and raising awareness of Australian’s urban and peri-urban agricultural food movement.

Sustain: The Australian Food Network, defines urban agriculture as: "the growing and producing of food in suburbs and cities, in backyards, in laneways and balconies, on verges and in schools; to empower local action, create healthy food hubs, invite volunteering opportunities, and foster meaningful community connections."

Urban Agriculture Month’s aim also is to connect people, strengthen networks and increase local food security.

The Livingstone community has highlighted that the unique natural environment across the rural, urban, marine, and island landscapes, is a key value for why they love living here and want to see the natural beauty, sustainability and diversity continue to thrive into the future.

Livingstone Shire Council encourages the community to attend this unique free event to not only learn about Urban Agriculture, but to also equally empower themselves with Sustainable techniques, tricks and tips they can practice in their own lives and very own backyards to help ensure that the whole Shire has strengthened resilient as our climate changes.

The event will include guest speakers and family friendly interactive activities and workshops. More information about this free event will be released closer to the date, via Council's facebook page and website, via the Events calendar.
